SUNDAY
The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted three-round total of 3-over 843 and tied with LSU for the team title at the Princess Anne Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The three-day tournament was played at the par 70, 5,816-yard Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Hokie Emily Mahar claimed the individual title in the tournament. The sophom*ore from Brisbane, Australia, carded a 7-under 203 for a one stroke win over Stacey White of Campbell. Mahar posted 1-under 69 in each of the first two rounds and followed that with a career-best and Virginia Tech women's golf program record of 5-under 65 in Sunday's final round, with five birdies and no score worse than par. This is Mahar's fifth career top 5 finish for the Hokies and she is the program's all-time leader in scoring average.
Also of note, Mahar was carrying the name of Sarah Joy Mitchell on her golf bag during the tournament. Beginning this season, the Hokies are honoring the memory of the fallen former member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets who gave her life defending her country.
The win marked the first-ever team tournament title in the program's four-plus years of competition. The previous best was two second place finishes, most recent in the 2018 Minnesota Invitational. Mahar's win is the third individual title in school history. Elizabeth Bose won the Hurricane Invitational in the Spring 2018 and Keera Foocharoen won the Alexa Stirling Intercollegiate in Fall 2018.
Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, finished 10th with a 211 and Foocharoen, a sophom*ore from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 13th at 213. Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 21st at 216 and Nora Wrenger, a redshirt freshman from Munich, Germany, tied for 64th at 226.
Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia competed in the event as an individual. She finished tied for 17th overall. In all, the Hokies place four golfers in the top 20 individually.
With identical scores of 843, the Hokies and Tigers were crowned co-champions of the tournament. They finished 13 strokes ahead of Chattanooga and 21 strokes up on UCF. Host ODU finished fifth at 861, Coastal Carolina was sixth at 862, College of Charleston was seventh at 863 and South Florida and Sacramento State tied for eighth at 872. Campbell was 10th at 877, ECU was 11th at 878, UTSA was 12th at 879, MTSU was 13th at 880, Minnesota was 14th at 892 and Marshall was 15th at 926.
The Hokies return to action at the end of October, as they travel to Wilmington, North Carolina to compete in the Landfall Tradition. The three-day event, hosted by UNC Wilmington, will be played at the Country Club of Landfall Oct 25-27.
SATURDAY
The Virginia Tech women's golf team has a two-round total of 3-under 557 and holds a five-stroke lead over LSU entering the final round of the Princess Anne Invitational. The three-day tournament is being played at the par 70, 5,816-yard Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Tech took the opening round lead with a 4-under 276 on Friday and followed that with a 281 on Saturday. Both the 276 and the 281 were the low rounds for the tournament in each round.
Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia and Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, lead the Hokies individually. They each have at 2-under 138 and are tied for fourth, three strokes behind Ingrid Lindblad of LSU.
Montgomery had the low round for the Hokies on Saturday with a 2-under 68, which included four birdies in her final 10 holes on the day.Mahar fired her second consecutive 69 in Saturday's second round.
Keera Foocharoen, a sophom*ore from Bangkok, Thailand is tied for eighth at 139 andJessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 12that 142.Nora Wrenger, a redshirt freshman from Munich, Germany, is tied for 56that 151.Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia is playing the event as an individual. She is tied for 22ndoverall at 144.
The Hokies, at 557, lead the Tigers by five strokes and Chattanooga by 14 strokes. Coastal Carolina is fourth at 573, UCF is fifth at 576, host ODU is sixth at 579, Campbell is seventh at 582 and College of Charleston is eighth at 583. Sacramento State is ninth at 584, MTSU is 10that 587, South Florida is 11that 590, ECU is 12that 591, UTSA is 13that 592, Minnesota is 14that 597 and Marshall is 15that 607.
The final round will be played on Sunday morning. Tech will be grouped with LSU and Chattanooga and will begin from the first tee at 9:50 a.m.

Keera Foocharoen, a sophom*ore from Bangkok, Thailand, carded a 2-under 68 and is in fifth place individually. She is three strokes behind Esme Hamilton of Chattanooga.
Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, and Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia are tied for sixth at 1-under 69, Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee is tied for 12th at even-par 70 and Nora Wrenger, a redshirt freshman from Munich, Germany, is tied for 70th at 77. Both Montgomery and Spicer had three-hole runs of birdie-birdie-birdie on the front nine this morning. During the first round, Tech recorded 20 birdies among the starting five players.
Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia is playing the event as an individual. She opened with a 1-over 71 and is tied for 20th overall.
The Hokies, at 276, lead the Tigers by three strokes and Chattanooga by four strokes. The College of Charleston and UCF are tied for fourth at 286, host ODU is sixth at 287, Sacramento State and Coastal Carolina are tied for seventh at 289 and Campbell is ninth at 290. UTSA is 10th at 291, MTSU is 11th at 292, South Florida is 12th at 293, ECU is 13th at 294, Marshall is 14th at 298 and Minnesota is 15th at 302.
The second round will be played on Saturday and the final round will be contested on Sunday morning.
